…are you a kite or a magician?

“Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies,
you accord with the way things are.
Compassionate toward yourself,
you reconcile all beings in the world.”
― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

The Modern Martyr: a person who sacrifices something of great value for the sake of principle.

If you are a true martyr, an honest to God (no pun intended) martyr, then … listen to this… YOU WILL NOT FEEL LIKE ONE.

If you are fully expressed and living the life you were meant to live, filled with your purpose and naturally inspired by your possibilities, then the things that you give up, or go unused in your life will also go… U N N O T I C E D .

The only people that will notice are OTHER PEOPLE.

If you are noticing that you are not doing things because of situations and circumstances, then it’s important to realize you are making those choices.

Do you see the difference between:

“I can’t because I have to watch the kids”
and
“Thanks anyway, I’m going to stay home tonight”

The first comment gives all of your power for decision away, you are saying, “I have no control over what I do because this circumstance or situation is beyond my control” AND it squarely places the blame on “the kids”.  While the second statement says, “I’ve made a decision to spend my evening a certain way”, this statement is saying that you are taking ownership for your decision.   This statement is simple, a fact and there is no blame and you have retained all of the power by simply saying, what you are going to do.  This is a very positive “I AM” statement.  no negatives.

More importantly, which one makes you feel better?   Which one is more positive?  The statement that says, you have no control… or the statement where you are asserting your control?

I believe that there are basically (2) types of people in the world.

The Kite:  The kite person believes that life happens to them.  They believe that something is holding the string that steers them and they are completely at the mercy of the unpredictable and uncontrollable wind to keep them up in the air.  They are limited in their ability to maneuver and can only go as far as the string will allow or the wind will blow.  They are powerless.  They are victims of circumstance.  They simply exist and are tossed from gust to gust.

The Magician:  The magician is a person who believes that they can change anything. They believe that magic exists in their thoughts and acceptance of their experiences. The magicians are dreamers and goal setters and changers of destiny, they are in control of what they accept and embrace and allow into their life.  These people actively design their lives.

Kite’s spend time talking about how someone or something else is at fault or responsible for their problems.

The magician, acknowledges the problems, looks for solutions and spends more time looking forward, then backward.

Both people are making choices.

What do you choose?

Make today amazing!
