What’s the hardest list you’ve ever had to create?
Grocery list? I say on a scale of 1 to 10, depending on your current dietary needs and finances and store availability… could be as high as a 7, and sometimes as low as a 2.
Birthday Gift List? Wedding gift list? List of things needed to repair the fence? List of things needed to get rid of the grubs in your lawn? List of things in order to pursue your life’s dream… ALL OF THESE pale in comparison to the hardest list that I suggest you create daily.
Hardest list you’ll ever write?
List 5 things you like about yourself.
The only rule is… they can’t be 5 things that you think other people like about you… they have to be 5 things that you like.
“People say I have pretty eyes” That doesn’t make it onto the list.
“I like my eyes” THAT will make it onto the list.
The list isn’t about things that you have… it’s about things you like about you.
Each day it changes and it morphs, and each day it’s important to remind yourself that you LIKE YOU!
Here’s my list for today:
1. I like that I am a morning person and happy
2. I like my smile
3. I like my eyes
4. I like my confidence getting up in front of people and speaking to a group of people.
5. I like that I get excited by the success of other people.
I have found that most people can not list the things they like about themselves without coming up with the things they would change if they could. For instance, “I like my feet, if only I could find comfortable shoes” Or “I like my legs, but I could lose a couple of pounds”
The key is to stop at the positive statement and when the negative pop’s up… recognize that it DOESN’T GO ON THE LIST.
I know we’ve spoken about morning gratitude and being thankful for every moment of your day AND how being thankful and showing gratitude will help you be happier… That gratitude MUST extend to yourself as well.
You can feel gratitude for everything and everyone on the planet and if you don’t like yourself, who you are, how you are you will not be happy.
Other people will only make you happy, temporarily. True happiness comes from within and only you have that kind of control.
There are people that would read this post and say, HA HA HA That’s silly, that won’t work… or HA HA HA writing a list of 5 things I like about myself will be easy.
Great! Then give it a go! Let’s do a little experiment:
Get out a few pieces of paper and write the days of the week at the top.
Literally list 5 things you like about yourself. REMEMBER no negative comments allowed.
Then tell me at the end of the week…
Do you feel better about some aspect of your life or yourself OR has everything stayed the same.
You see, your opinion of you, has a cascading effect on the rest of your life. Pay attention to the changes and write them down. It can be miraculous!
Have an Amazing Day!
